Origins & Foundation (1796)
Ron Santa Teresa is Venezuela’s oldest rum brand, established in 1796 in the Aragua Valley by Count Martín de Tovar y Blanco. The estate, known as Hacienda Santa Teresa, has been producing sugarcane and rum for over 200 years. The region’s unique climate—with a combination of Caribbean warmth and Andean coolness—creates ideal conditions for aging high-quality rum.

Family-Owned Legacy
In 1885, the Vollmer family, of German descent, acquired the estate and has maintained ownership for generations. Under their leadership, Santa Teresa evolved into a globally respected rum producer while preserving traditional Venezuelan craftsmanship.

The Birth of Solera-Aged Santa Teresa 1796
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the hacienda, the brand introduced Santa Teresa 1796, a premium rum using the Solera aging system, a technique traditionally used in sherry production. This process involves blending young and mature rums in a cascading series of barrels, ensuring a consistent, smooth, and complex profile.

The Project Alcatraz Initiative
Beyond rum production, Santa Teresa is known for Project Alcatraz, a social reintegration program that rehabilitates gang members through work, rugby, and education. This initiative has transformed former criminals into productive members of society, further solidifying Santa Teresa’s impact beyond spirits.
